Retail shop bill format with GST
Most shop bills go to consumers who are not registered under GST (B2C). The rules are lighter for them, but a few details still matter.
What a shop bill needs
- Your shop name, address and GSTIN, invoice number and date.
- Item description, quantity, rate, discount and GST rate for each line.
- Customer details only when the bill is ₹50,000 or more (name, address, delivery address, state). For smaller bills, the customer's name and phone are useful but not required.
- HSN codes are optional on B2C bills if your turnover is up to ₹5 crore, but showing 4 digits keeps your records tidy for GSTR-1.
- Place of supply: for over-the-counter sales, it's your own state, so CGST + SGST.
Example lines
| Item | HSN | Qty | Rate | Disc. | GST |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Steel water bottle 1 L | 7323 | 2 Nos | ₹350.00 | 5% | example 18% |
| Notebook, 200 pages | 4820 | 5 Nos | ₹60.00 | example 18% |
Rates are examples of the format only. Check the current rate for each product.
Tips for shops
- Turn on Round off so the total is a whole rupee.
- Add your UPI ID once: every bill gets a QR with the amount, and customers pay in seconds.
- Small sales under ₹200 to customers who don't want a bill can go into one consolidated invoice for the day.
- Choose Hindi or Punjabi labels if your customers prefer them.
